YDN EARLY CHILDHOOD CURRICULUM

The YDN curriculum, teaching strategies, and learning environments are all based upon what early childhood educators know about the way young children develop and learn best. Our classrooms are busy places with children involved in hands-on activities, talking, playing, exploring, singing, laughing, and sharing experiences. Research shows that little children learn far better through direct interactive experiences than through just sitting and listening to a teacher talk. We create learning environments and activities that are in tune with children’s different ages and stages of development. Each classroom teacher uses The Creative Curriculum Strategies, Inc., as the basis for creating and maintaining a high-quality program.

  • The 100 Book Challenge is a systematic reading program introduced in 2005 to the York Day Nursery four year old classrooms. Reading achievement is the goal. This exciting program provides access to books both at school and for home, as well as student engagement, parent involvement and tested teaching strategies.

  • The Scholastic Book Fair visits the York Day Nursery for a week yearly. To kick off the event, a family literacy program is held.

  • The annual “Fun and Fitness” week involves children, families and staff and includes a fund raising event for a non-profit organization, visits from fitness and nutrition experts, an “Eating of the Greens” family luncheon, and an “Eat-a-Rainbow-of-Colors” children’s tasting party.
